Charles Dickens Essay Example for Free

Charles Dickens Essay One exercise we observer in A Kestrel for a Knave likewise intends to show the understudies realities. Anyway this exercise is instructed by Farthing who is mindful and an all the more paternal educator and this is imparted by his name. Mr Farthing has utilized his benevolent character to increase some regard from the young men in the class. In spite of the fact that the exercise has a similar substance as the exercise in Hard Times during the exercise it becomes evident that Farthings instructing is unique. He figures out how to include Billy, who is regularly very timid and lacking inspiration, decidedly in the exercise. Farthing educates in a progressively loosened up way and lets the exercise stream just as inviting contribution from the young men. He urges Billy to take part and causes him to feel unique as he has something fascinating to share. Farthing lets Billys thoroughly considered tumble and doesn't stop him. Billy educates all regarding his fowl, which he has raised and prepared, and Farthing appears to be truly intrigued Jesses, how would you spell that? He composes words on the board, permitting the entire class to find out about Billys unordinary ability. Billy turns into the educator for some time and as Farthing isn't controlling like Gradgrind he permits this to occur. The exercise turns out to be loaded with singularity as Billy shares his unordinary diversion and his certainty develops. This could never have occurred in an exercise educated by Gradgrind, he could never urge a student to assume control over his position and would think a hobby like Billys absurd. The manner by which Farthing sustains Billys considerations mirror the manner by which Billy has supported Kes. The time and dedication that Billy has indicated the fledgling is coordinated, in spite of the fact that on a littler level, by the way Farthing trusts that Billy will talk and endure to address him delicately as though he realizes Billy has a great deal to share. Another difference between the two schools is the manner by which Billy and his colleagues conduct changes relying upon the educator, while Gradgrinds understudies are consistently the equivalent. The various strategies for showing present at Billys school become evident when the PE instructor Sugden is presented. Sugden is a harasser and again Hines has featured the educators character with his name, as Sugden is a hooligan. Billy detests PE and doesn't have a PE unit, as his family can't bear to get him one. He shows up later than expected to the exercise as he has been conversing with Farthing. Rather than prudently giving him a pack to wear Sugden derides Billy before different young men. The manner by which Billy is dealt with incites him to reply back and be saucy. Sugdens verbal tormenting draws out the antagonistic parts of Billys character. Not exclusively does Sugden verbally menace his understudies however as a major man he doesn't stop for a second to truly mishandle them as well. He hit Billy twice with the ball, holding it between two hands like he was killing him with a stone. The entire exercise is a tormenting game for Sugden. There is a nonappearance of aptitudes educated thus the exercise comprises of a round of football in which Sugden is the commander of one of the groups just as being the arbitrator. He menaces the rival group just as his own colleagues on the off chance that they commit errors. His disposition is youthful and shows no sportsmanship or reasonableness, two exercises which ought to consistently be strengthened in PE exercises. His negative mentality has a reasonable effect on the young men, who leave the exercise cold and deadened. The training framework introduced by Charles Dickens is extraordinary and pointlessly cruel. Anyway the title Hard Times causes it to appear as though Dickens is expounding sincerely on a period which lead to cruel strategies for instruction. He features the naivety of the individuals as now instructing strategies have improved and youngsters are urged to act naturally and accomplish as well as can be expected. Parody is utilized by Dickens to underscore the errors of the framework. Charles Dickens could of went to a school like the one in Hard Times thus I think he means to make the issues clear to individuals who in any case probably won't notice the wrongs in the public arena. Barry Hines likewise composes reality with regards to the instruction framework in his time and I think he additionally means to feature the inaccuracy of the association. Anyway Barry Hines composes all the more sensibly as the book is later and along these lines simpler to identify with. The two creators present frameworks, which currently appear to be off-base yet at the time they were thought of as adequate. The two books likely contain recollections of the writers school days and especially in A Kestrel for a Knave the scenes appear to be entirely credible. I could presume that neither one of the systems would be reasonable now yet in their time the schools appeared to be reasonable.

Influence of Sex in Society Free Essays

Sex assumes a significant job in today’s society. From TV, radio, music, and promotions, to video games, the Internet, and even workmanship and pictures, all types of media use sex to help sell their items. With general society being presented to such a large number of various kinds, the abuse and misuse of sex is normal. We will compose a custom article test on Impact of Sex in Society or on the other hand any comparative subject just for you Request Now Is sex a helpful instrument, or a ploy to get the consideration of the general population? Before examining sex in the media, one must comprehend why it has come to be that individuals use sex as a trick. â€Å"The composing of present day history has brought about a perspective that is out and out a stag party. The historical backdrop of ladies is overlooked, quieted, and controlled in the most exacting feeling of the term. This strategy for dispensing with the social and political fate of half of mankind is the best type of incomparability. † (Janssen-Jurreit, 1982, pp. 15-16) The world we live in today is despite everything man-made, no less now then in the nineteenth century. Eve Zaremba states in Privilege of Sex: â€Å"Women’s mindfulness as females has until as of late mirrored the world’s (I. e. men’s) picture of them; how well their own exhibition coordinated male desires. As English Canadians built up a character in nineteenth century society, they reflected the â€Å"ideals† for ladies of the Victorian time frame: refinement, shortcoming, numbness and accommodation. (Zaremba, 1974, p. I ) These individual jobs, as depicted by Oneill and Leone in Male/Female Roles: Opposing Viewpoints as the relationship of a man or lady to society based on sexual orientation, got fundamental in forming male and female mentalities towards each other. In the course of recent years striking changes in these customary male and female jobs have been seen. The resulting sway on men, ladies, and families because of these progressions is accepted to be, by numerous social history specialists, brought about by the reappearance of the women’s development. (p. 13) Though a positive modification of jobs has happened, how could it be that offspring of this century despite everything may obey generalizations? â€Å"A child is brought into the world knowing nothing, however brimming with potential. † (p. 19) Oneill and Leone accept that the procedure by which an individual turns into an animal of society, a mingled person, reflects socially characterized jobs and standards. The main pivotal inquiry posed by the guardians of an infant is â€Å"What right? A kid or a young lady? † (p. 25) Other inquiries about properties of wellbeing and states of being are just raised a short time later, the primary goal is to build up its sex. † Indeed, very quickly, sexual orientation character is for all time stepped on the youngster by the name it is given. † (p. 26) Recent research has set up without question that guys and females are brought into the world with an alternate arrangement of â€Å"instructions† incorporated with their hereditary code. Studies at Harvard University and somewhere else show that stamped contrasts among male and female child conduct are as of now evident in the main long stretches of life. Females are increasingly arranged towards individuals. Male newborn children, then again, are increasingly inspired by â€Å"things. † Stanford clinicians Karl Pribram and Dianne McGuinness infer that ladies are â€Å"communicative† creatures while men are â€Å"manipulative† creatures. A few people accept this is innate, while others feel that in the event that young men and young ladies were raised in the very same manner, at that point every single conduct contrast among people would vanish. Starting in early immaturity, kids build up their own thoughts of male and female jobs with the impression of the lead and exercises of their folks and different grown-ups in their reality, remembering characters for TV. Youngsters are presented to promoting from an early age. The impact, says the Ontario Ministry of Education, particularly of promoting on TV, â€Å"has a critical bearing on girls’ and boys’ conduct, and their desires. To most youngsters the business message is another snippet of data got from the TV. It is frequently hard for them to recognize truth from fiction, especially when the fiction is bundled in convincing words, striking pictures, and snappy music. † (Ontario Ministry of Education, 1975, pp. 5-7) A staggering measure of the perceptions that small children see are the cliché pictures of ladies and young ladies. â€Å"This nearly causes it to appear legitimized, states Hon. David Macdonald, as it is fortified and sustained by the mass scattering of these pictures in communicating. (Macdonald, 1979, p. 3) Kids know in their psyches that ladies, similar to men, come in all ages, shapes, sizes, and hues, however they don't see this spoke to in the communicate media. The expanding decent variety of women’s lives is likewise overlooked in most communicating. For instance, advertisements and programming frequently depict ladies as moms performing local errands, as monetarily subordinate homemakers, or as sexual draws for items or enriching objects. â€Å"Such pictures comprise a constraining or narrowing of women’s, men’s, and children’s view of themselves and their jobs in the public arena. † (pp. - 5) Sheila Copps made open her remarks that â€Å"sexist and supremacist generalizations were unmistakable in promoting. † (Curtis, 1996, p. 6) An individual from the Canadian Advertising Foundation (CAF), Patrick McDougall, terminated back by saying Copps did not understand what the CAF does and includes that Canadian promoting has hugely gotten it together and that there is almost no if any chauvinist publicizing being communicated. (p. 6) The general substance of TV these days has changed significantly from that of the past. Today characters manage significant issues, for example, teenager pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, spousal maltreatment, and conception prevention. Impoco, 1996, p. 58) Five to ten years back, this topic was unbelievable for use in programming content, as TV families would in general be busy with inconsequential things, for example, ludicrous dress and haircuts. In spite of the fact that Canadians have improved their telecom norms, not every person is totally following their pattern. In an escalated examination done on American programming, it was discovered that a sexual demonstration or reference happened at regular intervals on normal during prime time. (p. 59) â€Å"Sex Sells,† the familiar saying goes. (Menzies, 1996, p. ) Sexiness, as a segment of easy street, is a staple for promoters †Coca-Cola enlivened its medication store banners when the new century rolled over with flirtatious young ladies who male consumers wished to date and female consumers to imitate. (Carter, 1996, p. 53) Finnish yogurt producers ran an advertisement with hot, youthful, all around constructed Finnish young men holding compartments of yogurt, with the trademark â€Å"Less fat, more taste†¦. Eat it. † This stimulated an outrage and across the country banter. A proper shaft was directed on these promotions and some fascinating measurements were created. 66% of respondents were male, and 66% idea the advertisement was chauvinist. There was a sharp complexity in the female unforeseen, as by far most of whom thought the advertisements were provocative and very worthy (Holland, 1996, p. 31) These details simply demonstrate that when the situation is reversed, ladies see advertisements much similarly that men do, and men are annoyed at seeing themselves depicted as articles. These days everybody appears to be so touchy about anything raised in the media. â€Å"Even with regards to the decorum of utilizing sex claim in publicizing, it appears that there is an incorrect way (misuse ladies) and a correct way (abuse men). The pendulum has swung the other way now. In the event that one is to look at an uncovered chest in a promotion nowadays, odds are it has a place with a man. Male models have developed as the politically right â€Å"babes† of the 90’s. However, supplicate tell, where is the enormous open objection? † (Menzies, 1996, p. 9) Mediawatch, an association that â€Å"monitors† the delineation of ladies and young ladies in the media, concedes that you absolutely observe increasingly bare male substance today, than you completed three years prior. They battle that the impacts of typification on people aren’t equivalent in light of the fact that â€Å"men and ladies aren’t equivalent in the first place. Writer of this section, David Menzies composes â€Å"Hmmm, I still don't know. Isn’t a twofold norm, by some other name, still a twofold norm? † (p. 9) There is another progressively difficult issue at that point affronting the sexual orientations, with sex in the media today.. â€Å"Advertising pictures highlighting youthful models in interesting postures are conveying evil messages to pedophiles,† as indicated by one of Australia’s driving criminological specialists, William Glaser. He contends that some publicizing messages are giving pedophiles subliminal endorsement to carry out wrongdoing. It’s an unobtrusive thing, yet a little youngster presenting intriguingly in a noteworthy two-piece can convey an inappropriate message,† Glaser says. He includes â€Å"I don’t accuse the publicizing business, yet feels it energizes the fire with regards to pedophilia. † (Johnson) Likewise, the allure of sexual hostility as wrongdoing news, and in this manner as prime news, has been perceived by numerous papers recently. â€Å"While easily covered up under the shroud of target wrongdoing detailing, sexual savagery can be interminably misused for its titillating worth, its crypto †obscene quality and its misogynist incline. † (Johnson, 1997, p. 24) As assault and rape turned into a progressively genuine social issue in the 80’s, this prime report has helped numerous papers to sell more duplicates in the serious news showcase, while making an impression of responsive and capable announcing. â€Å"Newspapers are capable in detecting issues that stimulate g

Tracy Chapman Essays - The Story Of Tracy Beaker, Tracy Chapman

Tracy Chapman In Nineteen Eighty-eight Tracy Chapman discharged her self titled introduction collection that remembered echoes of racial distinction all through time. When discharged, Tracy's first hit collection sold unfathomably overall influencing a great many individuals' firm convictions on prejudice is only one year. In Nineteen Eighty-nine she sold ten million collections and won herself three Grammy's. Tracy had herself looking extraordinary so far, in any case, the best had quite recently started for this dark vocalist. On her self titled collection, she had a few hits of which one prompted some tenacious audience members until the end of time contacted. Tracy was one of the principal African American vocalists to appear articulation and emotions on a questionable level about race and force in a turmoiled nation experiencing the delayed repercussions of isolation among blacks and whites. One tune, Fast Car, on her presentation collection prompted the embarkment of who Tracy Chapman the artist was, is and conceivably who she may turn into. This tune, Fast Car is one of her most touchy melodies to brag my ears. Hearing her sing and communicate on such an internal individual level underlines Tracy's quality and assurance. The beat sets a cadence that you will murmur for quite a long time. In the melody Fast Car, Tracy actually relates her life to this quick vehicle, subsequently the title. Numerous individuals don't relate the title of the melody and the understanding while at the same time tuning in to the tune. In my translation the tune is the story of Tracy's life and the crimes that she survives. The tune is a movement more than quite a long while in her life. Quick Car takes us through three organizes in her life. There is no dreary ensemble in this tune either which I find rather intriguing in light of the fact that her ensemble is a mind-blowing movement. Tracy starts her honor winning motivational melody and the primary stage in her life by singing: You got a Fast Car; I need a pass to anyplace; Maybe we can make an arrangement: Maybe together we can get some place. This starting tune states truly that Tracy needs to leave her life and she will leave it with any individual who is happy to go with her. It could in all likelihood be one of the saddest lines in the melody, indicating a profound and unrecognized discouragement. This line by and by I feel identifies with numerous people groups lives, how they need to get away from the one thing they know with expectations of better. Envision what number of individuals can relate with Tracy in those scarcely any expressions. The following refrain in the tune expounds Tracy's good faith towards her past and her future. She sings with persuasiveness: Wherever is better; Started from zero got nothing to lose; Maybe we'll make something; But me myself I have nothing to demonstrate. Tracy sings about despising her life, and how she would like to state it over. I accept she's expressing how she has never known any better yet she holds trust later on. She doesn't figure it will take a lot to change her redundant life. Tracy's subsequent ensemble starts with: You got a quick vehicle and I got a plant o get us out of here; Been working down at the accommodation store; Managed to spare only a tad of cash; We don't need to drive that far, simply cross the outskirt and into the city. You and I can both get occupations lastly understand to be living. In this section I accept she says that she is making the best of her circumstance. Perhaps that implies living life as it has consistently been. In spite of the fact that Tracy lives with he anguishing persistence of her better tomorrow. Everybody has their fantasies and expectations. Tracy may not be as materialistic as others however she is more in contact with her own side which gives the tune extraordinary significance. Tracy develops her show in the third melody however just by explaining more on her past refrain. In this stanza, Tracy raises a genuinely agonizing occasion in her life. This refrain additionally unravels a great deal of the explanation behind her activities and feelings Tracy has managed. She starts: You see my father has an issue. He lives with the container and that is how it is. He state his body unreasonably old for working, I express it's too youthful to even think about looking this way. My mother went off and left him; She needed more from life than he could give: I said someone must deal with him; So I quit school and that is what I did.

How Well Do Families Navigate The Student Loan Process

HomeFinancePrivate LoansHow Well Do Families Navigate The Student Loan Process? This page may contain affiliate links.Nov 4, 2019You’ve done the math and realized that there’s no way to send your child to college without a loan. The loan process for college can seem complicated. In an attempt to find out what parents really experienced when they went through the student loan process, we conducted a survey of the members of our Paying For College 101 Facebook group. Over one hundred and forty-five parents responded to the survey, sponsored by College Ave Student Loans. Heres what they had to say: Informed Parents Make Better College Financial Decisions 83% of respondents with students borrowing a private loan, cosigned a loan for their child to attend college. Nearly 68% said they knew exactly what their monthly payment would be, and 88% said they understood how interest was calculated. Informed parents will hopefully make better decisions, so those numbers made us happy. (Although, of course, we would love for them to be even higher.) Despite this, there were still some respondents who were not as well-versed on the process: We are really clueless on all this loan stuff. Parents got a variety of loans with 59% getting federal student loans (Stafford, subsidized), 24% with private student loans, 12% with a federal Parent PLUS loan, and 5% with a private parent loan. Most parents borrowed less than $5,500 (24%). But 21% borrowed between $5,551 and $10,000, and 18% took out loans for $10,001-15,000. Twenty-seven percent of parents borrowed between $15,001-30,000, and 10% of parents have loans that exceed $30,000. Of the respondents who cosigned for a student loan, nearly 95% said that a parent or family member cosigned for the loan. Know what that means? They are on the hook for paying back the loan if the student doesn’t. Parents obviously know this, but the survey also showed that parents feel the loan process, from finding an endorser to repayment plans and interest rates, is baffling and stressful. And federal loans have a different process from private student loans. Interest rates can be tricky. As one parent said, â€Å"So many lenders give a potential borrower a large range on interest rates and rarely give the lower end of that range. (Its) unfortunate that people who actually pay up on loans are the ones who pay these insanely high interest rates because others borrow more than they can handle and default.† Parents can shop around to find lenders that might offer pre-qualification like College Ave Student Loans. The free tool tells you whether you qualify for a loan and what interest rates you can expect without impacting your credit score. Other parents were even unsure what type of loan they needed: federal student loan, private student, or parent loans, or a federal Parent PLUS loan. â€Å"I don’t understand the EFC!† Some parents wondered about their expected family contribution (EFC). For example, one parent said her EFC was $7,000 but she had to get a $20,000 loan and of course that doesn’t include the interest that will accumulate. The EFC, which is listed on the Student Aid Report, often is perplexing to parents. All of your taxed and untaxed income, including your student’s income, assets like savings and benefits, including unemployment or Social Security, are used in the EFC formula. Colleges take the information from the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) including your EFC to calculate your financial aid you might receive. Cost of Attendance (COA) minus Expected Family Contribution (EFC) equals the amount of Financial Need. â€Å"So my family contribution is more like $40,000 for the year not anywhere near $7,000.00,† she wrote. â€Å"I don’t understand what we are doing wrong not getting any financial assistance as I am a single mom making $48,000 a year.† Many parents were confused about how much to borrow and didn’t know about origination fees, which are charged on federal Direct and Parent Plus loans. Less is obviously better, but there are many factors to consider: estimate the total cost for college, borrow for only what your student really needs (tuition, books, room and board – not trivial things), research earning potential after graduation, research various types of loans, and think long-term about what you or your child can ultimately pay back. Here’s a tip: If you can, pay off interest on loans starting while your student is in school. As A Cosigner, Student Loans Can Also Feel Like A Parent’s Loan Parents are confused about the name private â€Å"student loans† because a parent may share responsibility to repay them. The reality is these days, there are few students that can cover the cost of college all on their own. In fact, most families need assistance of some sort to cover college costs. So, when loans are referred to as â€Å"student† loans, many feel it’s a misnomer. Parents are usually very involved in paying back loans, cosigning for private student loans, or even taking out private loans in their own name. To reflect these feelings, a better term might be â€Å"family† education loan. In addition to increasing college costs, the other reason parents are so involved in the loan process is because students generally have no credit history, which means they cannot – usually – borrow money on their own from any private lenders. Instead, parents or another relative must cosign the loan and financial help is based on their income, not the student’s. If parents have bad credit, this often means the student won’t qualify for some loans. â€Å"Many families already have enough debt and now need to add to it with cosigning,† one parent wrote. â€Å"Middle income families just do not qualify for anything today.† If your financing strategy includes federal student loans, Stafford or Direct Loans are in the student’s name and do not require a cosigner. Many of the respondents had different ways to approach the college funding situation Our student would need a cosigner, so we decided to fund her first year and she will have to get scholarships to fund the next 3+ years, said one. We chose to split the cost of college with our child so she will have a better chance of paying off her federal student loans earlier, said another. The best advice for parents about to embark on the financial aid journey. Do your homework. Research loans online. Learn the difference between federal and private loans. Ask questions. â€Å"We treated it like a house mortgage, shopping for rates, consolidation, etc.,† a parent said. â€Å"Also, people need to understand that what worked for one family will not work for another family as there are just too many moving parts to this whole process.† Advice from Parents Many parents, exhausted by the entire college loan experience, offered some advice to their peers who may be at the beginning of this tedious journey. In fact, 47% of parents we surveyed said they would change how they handled the college admissions process to help minimize the amount of loans their family needed to borrow. One parent recommended seeing if lower, in-state tuition at public schools is available to out-of-state students. Many colleges offer students who qualify for in-state or discounted tuition depending on regional, state, and college-specific programs. Some states have agreements with neighboring states that give students in-state tuition at any public school in either state. Many parents stressed the importance of students searching and applying for private scholarships and financial opportunities before it was time to attend college. A survey from College Ave Student Loans conducted by Barnes Noble College InsightsSM found that 80% of students wished they had researched more scholarships. Waiting until the last-minute costs money for something that a student may have been able to receive for free. Private scholarships probably won’t pay for a full ride to college, but they certainly can help with costs. Students can also receive more than one and usually use them at any college. More than one parent wrote that they should have more thoroughly learned how colleges award financial aid. Granted, this is a complex process, but one that every parent who is investing in their child’s education should intently research. Each college has its own methods for processing applications and awarding aid. Financial packages may or may not include loans. Don’t be afraid to ask the college admissions and financial aid staff questions. You want to get the best financial aid package possible, and many times you may be able to negotiate the offer. The college admissions and financial planning process is hard work that requires hours of research and years of planning, starting during a student’s freshman year in high school. The best advice? Don’t procrastinate. If your child plans to attend college, start looking at all options – now.

Do Biodegradable Items Degrade in Landfills

Organic materials â€Å"biodegrade† when they are broken down by other living organisms (such as fungi, bacteria, or other microbes) into their constituent parts, which are in turn recycled by nature as the building blocks for new life. The process can occur aerobically (with the aid of oxygen) or anaerobically (without oxygen). Substances break down much faster under aerobic conditions, as oxygen helps break the molecules apart, a process called oxidation. Landfills Are Too Overcrowded for Trash to Biodegrade Most landfills are fundamentally anaerobic because they are compacted so tightly, and thus do not let much air in. As such, any biodegradation that does take place does so very slowly. â€Å"Typically in landfills, there’s not much dirt, very little oxygen, and few if any microorganisms,† says green consumer advocate and author Debra Lynn Dadd. She cites a landfill study conducted by University of Arizona researchers that uncovered still-recognizable 25-year-old hot dogs, corncobs, and grapes in landfills, as well as 50-year-old newspapers that were still readable. Processing May Inhibit Biodegradation Biodegradable items also may not break down in  landfills if the industrial processing they went through prior to their useful days converted them into forms unrecognizable by the microbes and enzymes that facilitate biodegradation. A typical example is petroleum, which biodegrades easily and quickly in its original form: crude oil. But when petroleum is processed into plastic, it is no longer biodegradable, and as such can clog up landfills indefinitely. Some manufacturers make claims that their products are photodegradable, which means that they will biodegrade when exposed to sunlight. A popular example is the plastic â€Å"polybag† in which many magazines now arrive protected in the mail. But the likelihood that such items will be exposed to sunlight while buried dozens of feet deep in a landfill is little to none. And if they do photodegrade at all, it is only likely to be into smaller pieces of plastic, contributing to the growing microplastics problem and adding to the immense amount of plastic in our oceans. Landfill Design and Technology May Enhance Biodegradation Some landfills are now being designed to promote biodegradation through the injection of water, oxygen, and even microbes. But these kinds of facilities are costly to create and, as a result, have not caught on. Another recent development involves landfills that have separate sections for compostable materials, such as food scraps and yard waste. Some analysts believe that as much as 65% of the waste currently sent to landfills in North America consists of such â€Å"biomass† that biodegrades rapidly and could generate a new income stream for landfills: marketable soil. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Is Best Solution for Landfills But getting people to sort their trash accordingly is another matter entirely. Indeed, paying heed to the importance of the environmental movement’s â€Å"three Rs† (reduce, reuse, recycle) is likely the best approach to solving the problems caused by our ever-growing piles of trash. With landfills around the world reaching capacity, technological fixes are not likely to make our waste disposal problems go away. EarthTalk is a regular feature of E/The Environmental Magazine. Effective Monitoring And Measurement System Throughout The...

Erica Patterson July 14, 2015 MGT645: Project Management Essentials Professor James Marion An effective monitoring and measurement system throughout the project execution can make the difference between a successful project and a failure. Monitoring is just helpful in the event that it is incorporated with the execution stage toward the starting. There is no good reason for an observing action if all the work has been finished as of now and every one of the assets squandered. A system should be set up for this amid the arranging stage and caught up on emphatically. Decide What to measure It is basic to recognize which pointers are to be measured. These ought to be noted in the arranging report and†¦show more content†¦These are key measurements and should be followed in an orderly and powerful way, giving a prepared depiction of where the undertaking is anytime. The Economy Of The Czech Republic Essays - Communist States

The Economy Of The Czech Republic The government of the Czech Republic faced a political and financial crises in 1997 shattered their image as one of the most stable and prosperous post-Communist states. This somewhat new republic, despite the financial tribulation, has been able to reduce their inflation to 10 percent, formed a balanced budget, and hold unemployment down to only 3 percent, since their break away from the former Czechoslovak federation on January 1, 1993. The country's gross domestic product (GDP) expanded in 1994 after losses of nearly 20% during the first few years of the 1990's. The Czech Republic's GDP is currently about $120.8 billion according to a 1999 estimate, and the GDP per capita is posted at around $11,700. The lands of the Czech Republic have always been a part of the most economically modern areas within the European continent. The Communists, when they obtained Czechoslovakia in 1948, created an economic system that was greatly centralized on the government. Nearly all aspects of the Czech economy was controlled by the national government. This government regulated economy also removed almost all external influence by non-Communistic countries. Though the Czech economy held strong by Eastern European standards, the policies produced from the Communist government led to an eventual economic decline in Czechoslovakia. Once the final remains of Communism was scraped out in 1989, a collapse of Czechoslovakia was inevitable because the legacy left behind would be incredibly hard to deal with for the new leaders of this new state. In the early 1990s the post-Communist government quickly converted the economy to a system based on free enterprise. The new governments also adopted several reform policies, including a voucher privatization plan. Under this plan, citizens were given, for a small government fee, coupons which could later be converted into stock in companies. The voucher plan successfully privatized the economy, through returning ownership of most of the assets to the private. As of December 1994 more than 80 percent of firms in the Czech Republic were privatized or had decided on a privatization strategy. Business boomed in the capital of Prague and other cities in the mid-1990s as new companies were established by venturing entrepreneurs. The government also succeeded in reestablishing their economic connections with Western Europe as well as gaining a substantial amount of foreign economic aid. The Czech Republic has gained membership the The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the Central European Free Trade Association. In October 1993 the country became an associate member of the European Union (EU), and in December 1997 the EU invited the notion of them becoming a full member. As a part of the EU's primary expansion of membership, the Czech Republic is expected to gain full affiliation within five to ten years. The unemployment level in the Czech Republic is at 9.0 percent as of 1999. The employed are distributed with: 54 percent in the area of service, 40 percent in manufacturing and industry, and 6 percent in agriculture, forestry, and fishing. The country has many trade unions which are tied together through the Czech-Moravian Chamber of Trade Unions, which was founded in 1990 with headquarters in Prague. These unions are expected to help further decrease the unemployment and work stability in Czech. Some 40 percent of land in the Czech Republic is cultivated. Due largely to a decline in state subsidies, the number of agricultural workers has weakened dramatically. The principal crops grown in the Czech Republic are barley, wheat, corn, rye, sugar beets, potatoes, flax, and hops. Czech farmers also raise sizable numbers of livestock animals, including poultry, pigs, cattle, and sheep. Now, agriculture plays a relatively small role in the nation's export industry. Pre-Communist Czechoslovakia was mainly a producer of light industrial goods, including textiles, footwear, porcelain, and glass. Communism removed the importance of these industries and replaced them with heavy industry, including metallurgy and mining. The principal mineral extracted in the Czech Republic is coal. Czechoslovakia became a producer of steel, machinery, and weapons from this industrial change. The post-Communist Czech Republic, though heavy industry continues to be important, has allowed for the reemergal of traditional industries. The principal products of the Czech Republic today are woven fabrics, paper, crude steel, pig iron, and footwear; cheese and beer are important processed foods. Due to limited resources, the Czech Republic must import the bulk of its energy supply. Gas and oil are supplied mainly by pipelines through Slovakia. In

Evil: Kinds of evil in our lives Step outside. Now look around you. Do you see or hear anything evil out there today? I did this, and I didn’t find anything that I would consider evil. Then, I sat down on my porch while my dad went out to start his truck. After a bit, gasoline consumed the area around me. The smell of gasoline has now occupied my porch and moving about the atmosphere. I realized that pollution is evil. Evil is everywhere around us. Pollution is just one example. There are more examples like pollution that most people don’t think of as evil, such as smoking. Evil is a messy project, defying simplistic solutions, or so we think. There is no single, universally satisfying answer to this dark reality. Often the only evil we observe is the result of sinful choices. But we have to remember that some evil we cannot observe. Pollution is an evil that burns holes in the ozone layer. We know there is a hole in the atmosphere but we do not observe pollution as being evil, we observe it as a fact of life. Along with pollution comes smoking. Smoking is definitely an evil, a very bad evil that effects us greatly, and it pollutes the air. Smoking is the number one women’s cancer killer. The evil in smoking is killing you, and it also kills the nonsmokers around you. Often when tragedy strikes, when evil rears its ugly head, people are found complaining. To complain is to express frustration, to acknowledge ignorance, to announce hurt. Some of the question that arises are, â€Å"Why would God allow such and such to happen? Mobile commerce Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Mobile commerce - Research Paper Example There is more to be done and areas to be covered so as to realize the potential benefits of global of M-commerce. Its constrains and threats should also be dealt with. The first M-commerce was conducted in 1997 in Helsinki, Finland. Two vending machines for Coca Cola that are mobile enabled were installed. Payments could be made through Short Message Service (SMS). The same year, Merita bank of Finland launched the first banking service that is done through SMS. The sale of digital content started when Radiolinja launched the first commercially downloadable ringtones in 1998. Two great milestones were launched in 1999. These are, Smart money in Philipines and NTT DoCoMos i-Mode in Japan. This is an internet service which offered a revenue-sharing plan between NTT DoCoMos i-Mode and the content owner. M-mobile spread rapidly in 2000. Payments for parking were made through mobile in Norway. This was extended to train ticketing in Australia and purchase of airline tickets in Japan. The potentiality of including medical applications to M-mobile was demonstrated by peter Bentley and UCL Computer Science in 2008 (Venkatesh et al, 2003). The basis for M-commerce is high speed internet connectivity. This is well provided by mobile phones and other mobile devices. Tarasewich (2003) points out that in M-commerce, there are websites called Wandering Atrial Pacemaker (WAP) that are developed specifically for mobile devices and mobile phones. Websites that are enabled by WAP display catalogs of products available for users of mobile phones worldwide. M-commerce has overtaken E-commerce and E-business because mobile devices are easy to use, easily available, user friendly and lightweight. Therefore, M-commerce is simply E-commerce conducted over a mobile phone or other mobile device. M-commerce is more under the control of the customer because customization is possible. Customers can personalize their devices like mobile phones to receive what they want, how and when. It

Uniforms in school Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Uniforms in school - Essay Example There are three main reasons for this. The first is that it makes students more equal, the second is convenience, and the third is school pride. The simple fact is that if children wear uniforms, they are a lot less likely to notice differences between children from rich and from poor families. One of the main purposes of school is acclimatize students to the different types of people they will meet in their life. This is best done by allowing them to focus on the personality and identitiy of different people, what really counts, rather than be distracted by the surface, by the clothes that people wear. Students can easily be bullied if them come from poor families and have ragged clothes, likewise students who are rich and wear the latest designer duds might well become excessively popular. Uniforms tend to diminish or mask this unpleasant class distinctions. They promote equality, fraternity, and fellowship. They make people feel less alienated and more part of a community. Money after all is an artificial distinction. Shouldn’t people focus more on what really counts? Another useful argument is convenience. A lot of parents argue that because of school uniforms, they don’t have to buy clothes for their children, and this saves them time and money. But most children will have a few ordinary clothes next to their school uniform, but not many especially if they are in school five days a week. This also makes it easier for students to choose what they are going to wear at school. No matter that the choice is not so much made easy by virtue of uniformity, but because the students don’t really have much choice—the result is the same. Children are too young and inexperienced to be spending all their time thinking about self-presentation and the fickleness of fashion. Obsessing about these things can create a huge amount of psychological problems later in life, reducing the opportunity to get good work,

Science Vs Religion :: essays research papers

Since the beginning of human history there have been many explanations for events that seem out of human control. In recent civilized history, religious and since the beginning of human history there have been many explanations for events that seem out of human control. In recent civilized history, religious and scientific views have often clashed with one another. Religious ideas are usually presented first and then enough scientific evidence accumulates to dare religious beliefs. These findings of science are met with incredulity and most are considered a heresy. Since the middle ages until the 18th centuri, religious ideology was the most accepted way of explaining the unexplained. During the next couple hundred years, many members of academia(a school of philosophy), using science to back them up, came up with new ways of dealing with the unanswerable questions. When the church had the greatest power, men and women of science were viewed as the "wicked guys." In most cases it was safer to believe in the church and their ideas, in order not to be excommunicated or shunned by society, than to place their trust in charlatan scientists. As a result, many conflicts arise between men of religion and men of science. Even if a scientist set out to prove the church wrong and show some very strong evidence contrary to popular belief, he was usually shunned and his ideas denounced publicly. It is not until many people have similar evidence and findings do they gain any credibility with normal people and the church. Nowadays people believe that if a scientific view is false, then by continuing study and research the truth may be discovered. one may conclude that if no one presented new ideas, then intelligent thought would have no place in a society like that. Scientists like Darwin accepted the risks involved in presenting new ideas. Voltaire also was a revolutionary thinker. Although, he presented ideas of his own, he decided to satirize science and religion. Each society, church, men of academia, believes that their ideas are correct and therefore are the best of the world. It is true, even to this day, that each nation has a different set of standards, reasoning, and beliefs on how life works and what are the best possible things to believe in. In some cases, nations try to push those beliefs on other nations. This results in a push for new scientific research and other religious and philosophical beliefs of that nation, to fight the ideas that are being reflected on them.

James Berardinelli. “Twelve Monkeys” Essay

12 monkeys Introduction   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In the movie ‘12 monkeys’ there was a virus which was deliberately released in 1996 and killed more than five billion people. The survivors went to seek refuge into the underground sending volunteers to bring insect specimen from the universe to test for the virus presence. One of the sent prisoners is James cole who goes is given a chance to go back to 1996 but he is taken to 1990 instead. He remembers things as if he was in a dream. Among the things is where he remembers witnessing a man being killed in the airport while he was a child. This is what is always seen to be the Centre stage in whole movie (Lynette, 3). Below is a discussion on how mental illness can be judged on this particular movie for part one, part two discusses the definition of mental illness in regard to the social norms and believes, with part three closing with the discussion of how Cole’s experience relate to Plato’s allegory of the cave.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In this film, mental illness is featured in many instances for instance, when Jose mentions that the so called volunteers are said to go mad. This presents a clear show of mental illness in the movie. We also notice cole being locked up in the mental institution with other lunatics, showing that there were other many lunatics present. Goines is definitely crazy or schizoid because of his hallucinating and grandiosity nature. Dr. Railly, the psychiatrist alludes that may be the whole world may be insane. We really don’t understand if cole was really from the futureor was he ‘mentally divergent’. We notice cole questioning his mental capabilities, where he asks himself if it could not be great if he was crazy. Simultaneously the Dr. is convinced that he is from the furfure of which we know that this can not be right (Lynette, 8). If he was really sane and from the furfure, then how can one explain the voice that he hears, the one he calls bum calling him Bob, what of the changing guard faces what of the fact that he is never seen coming or leaving and his memory lapses? We really can’t know the physical divergence he claims to have because one can’t explain his fore knowledge about the boy in the well. The appearances in the world War onephotos and the bullets in his leg. In short, this movie seems to be implying that we may not be mentally ill or weird than the world we live.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Relative to the social believes and norms, mental illness or abnormality can be seen as not being an exact process as it tends to focus on different individuals with different lines of thinking. This relies on different situations, behaviors and context to which the measurement is applied (Weinberger ,2001)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In defining abnormality, people from different societies and countries have varied ideas. Each and every culture has its own concepts of what it considers to be normal or abnormal. This can make us conclude that what is considered as abnormal in one society is not the same in other societies. So, there is no society which is mere superior than the other in their perception of mental illness or one society has got many mental disorders than the other (American Psychiatric Association. 2000).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   If we look at the deviation from the norms, something or somebody can be considered abnormal if does not conform to what could be considered statistically abnormal. Those who focus on this aspect, only consider specific aspects. For instance, the intelligence quotient (IQ), the personal traits and their distribution. Asserting that a person is is abnormal in this aspect typically means that they deviate from the numeric average of a specific trait and behavior patterns.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The other mostly applied aspect in examining the mental illness of people is the deviation from the social norms. Naturally, some behaviors are considered as being not accepted in the society, but they can still be expected to be applied in certain situations. The majority of the population knows how to adjust and come along with these changes (Weinberger ,2001). The ones that contradict this are taken as abnormal or mentally ill on the extremes.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Also, a person is considered abnormal if he/she is not functioning correctly in that he or she may lack a full range of emotion and feelings and therefore his life is considered abnormal. These kinds of people can only be able to participate in only limited range of functioning lifestyle(American Psychiatric Association. 2000). Distress can also be used to gauge the mental illness capability of people as it could be an underlying mental problem.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Another aspect in the social norms definition of mental illness is the person’s association with others. If a person relation with others courses people to feel discomfort, it could be taken as these people are not mentally right. Along with this is the people’s unpredictable behavior which could much reflect on their mental health.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The Cole’s experiences relate to the Plato’s’ allegatory of the cave’ as his allegations that the real world may not be what our senses reveal. In relation to the Cole’s experience, we see him moving from one world of the past to the furfure or the vice varsa. In real this could only be a dream or mere imaginations, this alludes that Cole’s experiences could be reflecting Plato’s thoughts or allegations. In his Dialogue with Glaucon, we are not sure of the cave which he was referring to, either it could be the underground that the people had escaped to after the virus struck the universe or the prison where Cole was imprisoned.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   When he imagined that the prisoners could think that the sound that they heard were really coming from the shadows, it coincides with Cole seeing the changing face of the guard and that of omnipresence. His concepts on the shadows could reflect Cole’s switching from one world to another. Was what he saw from the 1990 world true or could it his experience from the 1996 and 2035? Which was the truer experience?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   On the last part of their discussion with Glaucon, he tells him that they, meaning the government, can not show any gratitude for the culture which they have never received. This could be reflecting the 12 monkeys who had released the virus that almost eliminated the human race according to the film. He said that with education on how to tackle issues, one will be able to defeat these ill minded people, reflecting Cole’s endeavors. Ethical Perspective - 1151 Words

Ethical Perspective MGT 344 W3 Individual Assignment University of Phoenix Darrell DiFabio October 20, 2008 Ethical Perspective Introduction Ethics can be defined as a philosophical study of moral values based on the concept of right and wrong. Therefore, ethical perspective could be considered as a person’s individual perception of moral values, beliefs and rules based on his or her personal view of right and wrong. The Ethics Awareness Inventory is a test devised to help individuals learn or analyze personal characteristics that reflect individual perspectives on ethics—one’s ethical perspective (The Williams Institute for Ethics and Management, 2008). I believe that â€Å"ethical conduct appeals to conscience† (The Williams Institute for Ethics and Management, 2008). Basically, all human beings have a natural sense of right and wrong. When put in a position to judge an individual’s performance or conduct over a particular issue as ethical or unethical, I prefer to look at his or her intentions rather than the particular outcome of his or her action before passing judgment—either positive or negative. I believe that people are people, and to err is human. Therefore, everyone disserves a chance on a case-by-case basis taking into consideration underlying circumstances in order to preserve human dignity. My ultimate goal is promoting individual freedom and independence for all human beings. Therefore, as far as obligation is concerned, I fall under Immanuel Kant and John Rawls philosophies—the philosophy of deontological theory (The Williams Institute for Ethics and Management, 2008). Results Results can be defined as the direct consequence, good or bad, of an individual’s actions or decisions. Therefore, a person’s actions and decisions reflect his or her level of ethical responsibility. Consequences of an act can be defined as morally wrong if physical or emotional harm is done to another as a result of the act (Weiss, J., 2006). Therefore, actions resulting in favorable physical orShow MoreRelatedA Look at Ethical Perspectives Essay example1150 Words   |  5 PagesA Look at Ethical Perspectives While it would be nice to think that it is easy to make decisions and all come to the same conclusion, this is not always the case. The assignment involves the comprehension of the relationship between organizational culture and structure, the leadership approaches, the basic concepts about motivation etc. Organizational structure allows the expressed allocation of responsibilities for different functions and processes to different entities such as the branch, department, workgroup and individual. Organizational culture can be reflected through the systematic procedure of the organizational structure. Learning outcome 1: Understand the relationship between organizational Structure and Culture. 1. 1 Compare and contrast different organizational structures and cultures According to  Schein  (1992), culture is the most difficult organizational attribute to change, outlasting organizational products, services, founders and leadership and all other physical attributes of the organization. Culture and structure is working like a backbone in the organization. It creates a new concepts and strategies which can affect any level of planning. When it applies on any hierarchy organization. So then implications of organizational culture and structure will be implemented to the government companies etc. Different form of Organization Cultures: * Power Culture * Person culture * Task Culture Role Culture Power culture is centralized this culture may found in the small kinds a business control is the basic element the decision maker is alone there is no consultancy the organization may react quickly to the danger. Basically this kind of culture is a welfare non profitable, charities and for the social activities. This kind of culture can be in the group or i ndividual aim. It is basically a team work based approach to complete a particular task. This culture is more common the business where the organization will establish a project team to complete the project in the particular time. Common in most organizations today is a role culture. In a role culture, organizations are split into various functions and each individual within the function is assigned a particular role. Different form of Organization Structures: * Functional structure: * Divisional structure: * Matrix structure: Employees within the functional divisions of an organization tend to perform a specialized set of tasks. This leads to operational efficiencies within that group. As a whole, a functional organization is best suited as a producer of standardized goods and services at large volume and low cost. Also called a â€Å"product structure†, the divisional structure groups each organizational function into a division. Each division may have its own sales, engineering and marketing departments. The matrix structure groups employees by both function and product. This structure can combine the best of both separate structures. A matrix organization frequently uses teams of employees to accomplish work, in order to take advantage of the strengths, as well as make up for the weaknesses, of functional and decentralized forms. 1. Explain how the relationship between an organization’s structure and culture can impact on the performance of the business. For an organisation to achieve its goals and objectives there must be harmony between its structure and culture. If the two are not compatible then it will become harder for the organisation to achieve its objectives and in the long run may even threaten the existence of the organization. An organizational structure consists of activities such as task allocation, coordination and supervision, which are directed towards the achievement of organizational aims. (Pugh, D. S. ed. 1990). Organization culture is the set of values, rules, beliefs, attitudes and regulations these factors can help members of the organization to know how we will Work. For example, Shell Company is the biggest multinational company with many product lines. Employees are functional specialists trained according to the product or market distribution. Develop the behavior of employees they develop culture which they need. Culture depends upon the nature of employees it according to that culture. Culture does not remain the same but the unwanted culture will changed according to new environment. Every organization has their own culture and structure it’s very important for every organization in a culture there are many people belonging to the different groups. Every organization needs good culture, good social norms, valves and ethical behavior. 1. 3 Discuss the factors which influence individual behavior at work. How individuals behave and how organisations can motivate them to give more to the organisation has been the subject of various research and many well known writers have written books on this subject. The behavior of people and other organisms or even mechanisms falls within a range with some behavior being common, some unusual, some acceptable, and some outside acceptable limits. Human behavior is experienced throughout an individual’s entire lifetime. The factors and the emerging points that influence the individual behavior at work are referred below: * Ability to perform a job * Attitude to the organization * Motivational factors * Organizational Culture and faith * Present Condition of the Individual Learning Outcomes 2: Understand different approaches to management and leadership 2. compare the effectiveness of different leadership styles in different organizations Different form of leadership styles of leadership are refereeing below: * Authoritarian: The authoritarian leadership style is when the leader spends most of his time giving out instructions. This type of leader tells their followers what to do, how to do it and when to do it. * Autocratic leadership: This style is used when leaders tell their employees what they want done and how they want it accomplished, without getting the advice of their followers. * Delegative Leadership: In this style, the leader allows the employees to make the decisions. However, the leader is still responsible for the decisions that are made. This is used when employees are able to analyze the situation and determine what needs to be done and how to do it. * Democratic / Participative: The democratic leader on the other hand, encourages follower to participate and give ideas. This type of leader allows the others to get involved in the decision making process. * Democratic leadership: This style involves the leader including one or more employees in the decision making process (determining what to do and how to do it). However, the leader maintains the final decision making authority. 2. 2 explain how organizational theory underpins the practice of management. Taylor (1911) observed that some workers were more talented than others, and that even smart ones were often unmotivated. He observed that most workers who are forced to perform repetitive tasks tend to work at the slowest rate that goes unpunished. Taylor used the term â€Å"soldiering† and observed that, when paid the same amount, workers will tend to do the amount of work that the slowest among them does. Many people strive to adhere to the theory to help them become better at their jobs or more successful in life, although this may lead to them having to sacrifice some of their personal principles in order to succeed. One example of following organizational theory in the financial sector would be an employee or manager who wants to know how to achieve goals by having a set structure to follow. In addition, someone in a Human Resources sector will have to make decisions throughout their working day that will undoubtedly change the structure and practice of a working day for all other employees in the company. If an individual gets so wrapped up in trying to fit the mould of what they interpret their role should be in terms of organizational theory, they may start to neglect other areas of business. In the same way, management theory may also underpin the personal values of some individuals. 2. 3 evaluate the different approaches to management used by different organizations One of the reasons why managers are having such difficulty in applying management methods to government problems is this: there are many different schools of thought on management approaches, and each of these schools has its own proponents. Generally, an original proponent makes his or her name in that particular concept, and becomes an ‘expert’ and a ‘guru’ of it. There is little incentive to integrate this one approach with others. ————————————————- Management flexibility ————————————————- A manager who only has experience in one approach, such as project management, may have difficulty in adapting to changing demands. A manager can be much more effective if he or she is able to select a management approach that is most appropriate to the desired need or goal. This adaptability or ‘eclectic’ flexibility may prove very useful in the changing government management environment. The Toyota Way is a set of principles and behaviors that underlie the Toyota Motor Corporation’s managerial approach and production system. Toyota first summed up its philosophy, values and manufacturing ideals in 2001, calling it â€Å"The Toyota Way 2001. † It consists of principles in two key areas: continuous improvement, and respect for people. Liker (2004), calls the Toyota Way, â€Å"a system designed to provide the tools for people to continually improve their work. The system can be summarized in 14 principles. ————————————————- ————————————————- ————————â⠂¬â€Ã¢â‚¬â€Ã¢â‚¬â€Ã¢â‚¬â€Ã¢â‚¬â€Ã¢â‚¬â€Ã¢â‚¬â€Ã¢â‚¬â€- ————————————————- Learning Outcomes 3 Understand ways of using motivational theories in organizations 3. 1 Discuss the impact that different leadership styles may have on motivation in organizations in periods of change Motivation can be considered in two major modes, intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation is that which comes from within the individual, team, group, or organization. Its execution brings about production and self-actualization. Extrinsic motivation is that which originates outside of the individual or organization under scrutiny. The fulfillment of external motivation results in what Lawler (1973) calls social rewards. Dyer, (1972) defines three areas affected by motivation. A Change in amount, quality, or direction of performance. Motivation is a word used to refer to the reason or reasons for engaging in a particular behavior – especially human behavior. These reasons may include a drive, a need, a desire to achieve a goal, a state of being, or an ideal. In human beings, motivation involves both conscious and subconscious drives. Developing leadership culture all starts with you and all your colleagues in senior leadership . Three statements can be pointed that would not find in the treatment of change . First, in this new world order, your new work as a leader is about developing culture and talents not about assigning it to someone else that all culture development change starts with you. Second, the key to successful transformation is doing the work in the senior leadership culture first before taking the change to middle of the organization†¦ Third ,transformation is serious it work for serious people, it is about getting bigger minds to deal with attachments bigger and complex issues that will continue to confront you, your leadership and your organization 3. 2 Compare the application of different motivational theories within the workplace Motivation is a word used to refer to the reason or reasons for engaging in a particular behavior – especially human behavior. These reasons may include a drive, a need, a desire to achieve a goal, a state of being, or an ideal. In human beings, motivation involves both conscious and subconscious drives. Motivation Theories – Cognitive Dissonance Theory Cognition is any element of knowledge – an attitude, emotion, belief, value, behavior, etc. When two cognitions are in direct conflict with one another a state of anxiety is produced – dissonance is the term for the anxiety. Compatible cognitions are consonant – i. e. they are in harmony. A classic example of Cognitive Dissonance is holding the belief that â€Å"smoking is bad for you† while continuing the behavior of smoking. These two cognitions are in direct conflict with each other. The belief that smoking is bad is part of one neural network – perhaps associated with health and fitness – while the behavior of smoking is part of another network having to do with tension management, how to hang with friends, or the like. So, these cognitions exist in different locations in the brain. Both are trying to accomplish something important for the self – tension management and hanging with friends is important. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs The American psychologist Abraham Maslow devised a six-level hierarchy of needs that motivate or drive human behavior. I believe that each of these needs must be met in order for one to achieve happiness. Maslow progressively ranks human needs as follows: †¢Physiological – food, shelter, clothing †¢Security and safety †¢Love and feelings of belonging †¢Competence, prestige, and esteem †¢Curiosity and the need to know †¢Self-Actualization 3. 3 Evaluate the usefulness of a motivation theory for managers Motivation is a very important for an organization because of the following benefits it provides:- * Builds friendly relationship Improves level of efficiency of employees * Leads to achievement of organizational goals * Leads to stability of work force * Puts human resources into action Douglas McGregor, an American social psychologist, proposed his famous X-Y theory in his 1960 book ‘The Human Side Of Enterprise’. McGregor’s XY Theory remains central to organizational development, and to improving organizational culture. McGregor’s ideas suggest that there are two fundamental approaches to managing people. Many managers tend towards theory x, and generally get poor results. Enlightened managers use theory y, which produces better performance and results, and allows people to grow and develop. Learning Outcome 4: Understand mechanisms for developing effective teamwork in organizations 4. 1 explain the nature of groups and group behavior within organizations Groups may be classified into two different types: * Informal groups * Formal groups Formal Groups: Formal groups are created to achieve set goals and have specific responsibilities within an organization. Formal groups within organizations are known as work teams or simply teams. Examples of work teams include, call centre teams and project teams. Informal Groups: Informal groups consist of alliances that have no formal structure. Informal or social clubs. For instance, unless the HRD function communicates the policies clearly and cogently, the employees would not participate and comply with them wholeheartedly. Hence, molding group behavior is important for organizations. However, this cannot be construed to mean that all employees must think and act alike. On the contrary, innovation cannot happen when group behavior is the same across all levels. 4. discuss factors that may promote or inhibit the development of effective Teamwork in organizations. Creating and sustaining effective teamwork requires persistent renewal and discovery of good practice. Organisations which try to create positive relationships between employees and makes each employee feel as part of the community, will have a greater chance of achieving effective teamwork across the organisatio n. An effective team requires cohesion that is held together by several factors. In order to understand how to assemble an efficient team, first need to know the factors affecting effective teamwork. The factors that may promote or inhibit the development of effective Teamwork in organizations are: * Communication skills and process * Inter-team co-operation. * Leadership Technique * Task effectiveness * Team dynamism * Team innovation * Team member’s well-being * Team viability * Team working environment, process or tools 4. 3 evaluate the impact of technology on team functioning within a given organization. New technology has been injected into the workplace at an exponentially increasing rate Many companies see new technology as the means to increase profit margins and to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving marketplace. The introduction of technology, especially information technology has changed composition of existing team models and has introduced new team models such as virtual teams. Powell, Piccoli and Ives (2004), define virtual teams in their literature review article â€Å"as groups of geographically, organizationally and/or time dispersed workers brought together by information and telecommunication technologies to accomplish one or more organizational tasks. Conclusion An organization can do better through the practice of Team work and proper utilization of technologies and resources. In the report we have overlooked different management approaches, styles and the motivational approaches which can reflect through the organization structures and culture. So consequently the organization must review the tasks that have been performing according to the management plan and identify the best way to act How to cite Organizational Behaviour, Essay examples Organizational Behaviour Free Essays 1.What is the importance of interpersonal skills? We will write a custom essay sample on Organizational Behaviour or any similar topic only for you Order Now What do managers do in terms of functions, roles, and skills? Management is a process that is used to accomplish organizational goals; that is, a process that is used to achieve what an organization wants to achieve. Managers are the people to whom this management task is assigned. In terms of Functions, Managers do Planning, Organizing, Directing and Controlling. To be an effective manager, it is necessary to possess many skills. Not all managers have all the skills that would make them the most effective manager. As technology advances and grows, the skills that are needed by managers are constantly changing. Different levels of management in the organizational structure also require different types of management skills. Generally, however, managers need to have communication skills, human skills, computer skills, time-management skills, and technical skills. 3.What is organizational behavior (OB)?. Organizational Behavior (OB) is the study of the organization itself and also of the interface between human behavior and the organization. A field that investigates the impact that individuals, groups and structure have on behavior within organizations in order to achieve the goals. 4.Why is it important to complement intuition with systematic study? Consciously or unconsciously we are all students of behavior. We observe others and attempt to interpret what we see. We â€Å"read† people all the time and even attempt to predict what they might do under different sets of conditions. We develop some generalizations in explaining and predicting what people do and will do. These generalizations come as a result of observing, sensing, asking, listening, and reading, or else secondhand through the experience of others. There are certain fundamental consistencies underlying the behavior of all individuals that can be identified and used to alter conclusions based on individual differences. The consistencies allow predictability. Systematic study means looking at relationships, attempting to attribute causes and effects, and basing our conclusions on scientific evidence; that is, on data gathered under controlled conditions and measured and interpreted in a reasonably rigorous manner. Systematic study replaces intuition or those â€Å"gut feelings† you often hear experienced managers talk about. While some of our appraisals may prove highly effective in explaining and predicting the behavior of others, we all carry with us a number of beliefs that frequently fail to explain why people do what they do. This occurs because many of the views we hold concerning human behavior are based on intuition rather than fact. There is a better way; a systematic approach to the study of behavior can improve your explanatory and predictive abilities and will uncover important facts and relationships, and provide a base from which more accurate predictions of behavior can be made. Most behavior does not occur randomly; it generally has a cause caused and direction based upon some end that the individual believes, rightly or wrongly, is in his or her best interest. Because of differences between individuals even in similar situations, people do not all act alike. 5.What are the major behavioral science disciplines that contribute to OB? The major behavioral science disciplines that contribute to OB are such as Psychology, Sociology, Social psychology, Anthropology and Political science. 6.Why are there few absolutes in OB? There are few, if any, simple and universal principles that explain organizational behavior. There are laws in the physical science-chemistry, astronomy, physics – that are consistent and apply in a wide range of situations. They allow scientists to generalize about the pull of gravity or to be confident about sending astronauts into space repair satellite. But as a noted behavioral researcher aptly concluded, â€Å"god gave all the easy problems to the physicists†. Human being are complete, because they are not alike, our ability to make simple, accurate and sweeping generalizations is limited. Two people often act very differently in the same situation, and the same person’s behavior changes in different situations. For instance, not everyone is motivated by money, and you behave differently at church on Sunday than you did at the party the night before. That doesn’t mean, of course that we can’t offer reasonably accurate explanations of human behavior or make valid predictions. However, it does mean that OB concepts must reflect situational, or contingency, conditions. We can say that x leads to y, but only under conditions specified in z. the science of OB was developed by using general concepts and then altering their application to the particular situations. So, for example, OB scholars would avoid stating that effective leaders should always seek the ideas of their follower before making the decision. Rather, in some situations participative style is clearly superior. But, in other situations, an autocratic decision-making style is more effective. In other words, the effectiveness of a particular leadership style is contingent on the situation in which it’s used. You read "Organizational Behaviour" in category "Papers" compare the effectiveness of different leadership styles in different organizations Different form of leadership styles of leadership are refereeing below: * Authoritarian: The authoritarian leadership style is when the leader spends most of his time giving out instructions. This type of leader tells their followers what to do, how t o do it and when to do it. So consequently the organization must review the tasks that have been performing according to the management plan and identify the best way to act How to cite Organizational Behaviour, Papers
